Our Church History

Current Sanctuary
Current Sanctuary
On Sunday night, September 3, 1973, God spoke through prophecy that a church should be established.  The church should be called Truth Tabernacle, and those wanting to join should sign their names.  Henry E. Dixon should be its pastor and founder.  At that time, Pastor Dixon had not received his calling into the ministry.  The years to follow would be ones of dedication and sacrifice.

On Sunday, February 1, 1975, Truth Tabernacle began worshipping in the Payne’s Chapel Classroom.  The presence of the Lord was there mightily.  Many people from far and near came to be a part of the services and were blessed.

The land for the church was donated by Bro. Frank Brightman, Sr.; and on February 8, 1976, Groundbreaking Services for the previous edifice were conducted.  In June, 1976, the building was started.  On January 1, 1978, we entered our former building.  Construction on the Brightman Memorial Fellowship Hall began in 1988 and was completed in 1990.

During a church business meeting in October, 2002, members discussed remodeling the old sanctuary.  However, the members decided against it in favor of constructing a new sanctuary.  After working collectively for the next sixteen months, construction began on the new sanctuary in January, 2004.  On August 29, 2004, we began worshipping in the new church.

Presently, there is a ministerial staff composed of the pastor, four ministers, two evangelists, one prophetess, and one teacher.  There are several ministries:  Mothers’ Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Deacons’ Ministry, Trustees’ Ministry, Christian Education Ministry, Ushers’ Ministry, Drama Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, Pulpit Aide Ministry, Multimedia Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Brotherhood Ministry, and Van Ministry.  The Music Ministry is composed of the Gospel Choir, H. E. Dixon Ensemble, Little Truth, the Male Choir, and the Daughters of Truth.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14

Our Shield

The Ministries of Truth Tabernacle’s shield was envisioned and designed by Evangelist Wilbur O. Gethers and Deacon Richard L. Dixon.  The artist’s conception was by Evangelist Gethers.

What is its meaning?

The “dove” symbolizes the Holy Spirit.  The “two-edged sword”represents the Word of God.  The Α and Ω represent the infinite God. The “flames” represent the Ministries of Truth Tabernacle.  (Psalm104:4; Hebrews 4:12)

The Ministries of Truth Tabernacle sends forth its ministers as flames of fire, proclaiming the Word of God under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.  The proclamation is that Jesus Christ is Lord, our Alpha and Omega, our beginning and end.
